PTSD Treatment in Carlsbad | California.

Are You At Your Wit’s End Trying To Cope With A Traumatic Past?

Do you feel like you have tried everything, including medication, to manage your PTSD symptoms without success? Have you struggled to heal and move on using talk therapy because merely rehashing the past is just keeping you stuck there—or even making things worse?

Perhaps you only get to enjoy two or three days where you feel “normal” before something triggers you and puts you right back where you were.

Or maybe this isn’t about you—maybe you are considering PTSD treatment as the parent of a teen who is struggling to overcome a traumatic past of their own.

Trauma And PTSD Present A Wide Array Of Symptoms

For instance, you may experience:

  • intrusive thoughts, memories, dreams, or vivid imagery of past event(s).

  • flashbacks that make you feel detached from the world and loved ones.

  • a deep sense of anger, fear, or even horror that constantly keeps you on edge.

You likely shut down from time to time or avoid people, places, or things that remind you of the past, which only makes the world grow smaller. And at times, you feel so numb you may not even be able to experience grief and sadness—much less joy and happiness.

Trauma and PTSD are formidable adversaries, however, our specialists at Thrive Coastal Therapy have the tools and expertise to help you put your life back together again. With our help, it is possible to heal and finally reclaim a sense of safety, peace, and joy in your life.

Trauma And PTSD Are Alarmingly Common In Our Culture

PTSD treatment in Carlsbad

The projected lifetime risk of PTSD in the United States stands at 8.7 percent of the population. That’s alarmingly high compared to European, Asian, African, and Latin American countries, which report rates as low as 1 to 2 percent.*

In the USA, where services are available, roughly half of those with PTSD seek treatment, and only 58 percent of those receive care from a qualified mental health professional.** Plus, many people with PTSD symptoms do not even know what they are experiencing nor that treatment is an option.

Why Is PTSD So Hard To Manage Alone?

Many of us were raised according to a “suck it up, buttercup” sort of life philosophy that makes reaching out for help really difficult because it seems like a sign of weakness. As a result, fears, triggers, and symptoms continue to persist until they grow out of control. And though trying to heal oneself is noble and courageous, most people lack the tools to create lasting change.

The truth is that PTSD is a complex disorder that affects several different parts of the brain and body, which requires advanced techniques to effectively treat and resolve symptoms. Thankfully, our trauma specialists are equipped to offer you compassionate support, insight into your situation, and concrete tools for improving your quality of life.

PTSD Treatment Is A Powerful Way To Not Only Heal But Thrive

PTSD Treatment in Carlsbad, CA.

So many clients who come to see us at Thrive Coastal Therapy have been treated for years (sometimes decades) with no symptom relief. And while talk therapy has its place in the healing process, our trauma specialists utilize empirically validated therapeutic tools known to produce immediate and long-term relief from PTSD symptoms.

We prioritize healing from a holistic perspective, acknowledging how significantly emotional health can impact our physical and mental well-being—and vice versa. With that in mind, we strive to give you a space where you can let your guard down, explore your pain, and find a definitive path toward healing and thriving in all areas of your life.

What Is PTSD Therapy Like At Our Practice?

Thrive Coastal Therapy offers a boutique therapeutic experience that makes sharing your story less intimidating and more relaxing. Our practice is located on the beach, and our office is designed with a warm, modern touch that departs from the clinical feeling of most therapists’ offices.

We have a water fountain, plants, great architectural lighting, and music in the background. We even have organic teas and an espresso machine. Everything is aimed at providing you with a safe, pleasant environment that promotes healing, gives off good vibes, and allows you to explore your pain safely.

How Does PTSD Counseling Effectively Create Change?

Our trauma and PTSD counselors at Thrive Coastal Therapy tailor our approach to treatment according to each client’s mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs. In sessions, we’ll look for concrete ways to achieve change while tracking progress, reviewing results, and adjusting treatment as needed. To do that, we use a combination of two main tools:

  • EMDR for PTSD/trauma—also known as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy—is a research-driven, evidence-based therapeutic model. It’s designed to help quiet the mind and body—to calm hyperactive or over-reactive parts while reactivating the parts of the self that may have shut down. In essence, it enables the brain to process trauma and leave it behind.

  • Trauma-Focused CBT—an extension of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)—looks at the negative cognitions and self-talk that keep people stuck in the past. It helps clients become good investigators who can identify, understand, and change unproductive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors so they do not take on a life of their own.

Both of these healing methods are considered the gold standard in trauma and PTSD treatment. In fact, the World Health Organization (2013) stated that EMDR and TF-CBT are the only therapy models advised for children, adolescents, and adults with PTSD.

Trauma is like a splinter, a foreign body that prevents you from healing, but with the right help and support, you can address the core issue, find relief, and finally overcome the past. Our trauma therapists have decades of clinical experience, often working with some of the most complex cases of PTSD in the US (including victims of crime).

We assure you that healing, finding peace, and discovering your purpose is completely possible. You do not have to suffer anymore. We have a whole team here ready to support you and cheer you on through the process of healing and learning to thrive.

Perhaps You Are Considering PTSD Therapy But Still Have Some Concerns…

I worry that PTSD treatment is too expensive.

Our services may cost a little more, but your healing journey may be shorter in the long run. That is because, at Thrive Coastal Therapy, you are not a number—you are a person. Every therapist is specially trained in trauma and PTSD treatment, and we love what we do. This means we prioritize getting to know you, what your needs are, and how we can specifically address your experience with trauma or PTSD.

We also have a billing concierge service that can submit your superbill the same day you pay for your session, enabling you to get reimbursed as soon as possible. Our goal is to give you the most focused service possible so you can solely concentrate on healing and getting back to your life.

What if my trauma therapist doesn't get me?

PTSD treatment works differently for everyone, which is why we recommend committing to two or three sessions maximum to see if you feel understood and comfortable. If you feel uncomfortable or think we may not be a good fit, we can place you with a new therapist or assist with a referral. All we care about is you and getting you the help you need and deserve—even if it means guiding you to someone else.

What if I can't make my appointment in person?

That is absolutely okay! We have an online EMDR program that has been empirically validated to be effective for use via Telehealth. Whether you want to meet in person, connect online, or use a combination of both services, we’ll tailor PTSD treatment sessions to meet your needs. Our HIPAA-compliant teletherapy platform ensures that all of your information is secure and confidential.
